    Hello,

I found the post below that describes the problem my BatchPatch is currently having.

    https://batchpatch.com/forum/topic/progress-bar-hangs#post-39604

I am using version 2016.3.5.13.30, on Windows Server 2012 R2. The ‘Progress’ field seems to hang at a certain percentage. Under ‘Windows Update Messages,’ BatchPatch displays the message, ‘Download operation completed.’ Please let me know if there are any known resolutions for this issue. Thanks.

Do you see the problem occur regularly on multiple computers? Or is it just something that occur regularly on a single computer? Or is it something that occurred just one time on one or multiple computers?

The only other report of this issue we received was 3 years ago in the posting you referenced. We have never heard of this issue since then nor have we ever experienced it or reproduced it. My best guess is that there are certain cases where the Windows Update Agent reports incorrect progress data to BatchPatch. However, the BatchPatch functionality is not impacted. It would only be cosmetic.

Additionally, please check the BatchPatch.log under ‘Actions > Windows Updates > View BatchPatch.log’ or by viewing it directly on the target computer (default location would be C:Program FilesBatchPatchBatchPatch.log). Are there any download failures? This would be the only potentially legitimate reason that I can think of for an incomplete progress bar.

The problem occurred with 15 computers, in a group of 50. The servers with this problem are all Windows Server 2012 R2, but I also have Windows Server 2012 R2 servers that do not have this problem. Yes, I understand that this problem may only be cosmetic. I was just wondering if there are any updates to this issue.

Did the problem occur just one time on those computers? Or has it occurred on those computers many times?

I think there is a very good chance that one particular update that was installed on those computers was the cause of the issue and that you won’t see it again.

I do not think that there is a bug in BatchPatch that can be fixed. We are at the mercy of the progress information that the Windows Update agent provides, which can apparently on occasion not be accurate.

I will keep an eye on this and update this post.

Here’s a screenshot, just to make sure we are both talking about the same thing.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, I understand. Your screenshot confirms what I was thinking. This is not a bug in BatchPatch. There is nothing we are able to do to “fix” this. The issue is that erroneous progress data is being reported by the Windows Update Agent. I doubt you will see it happen again. Or if you do see it happen again, it will be only *very* rarely.

Hi, I am getting the same problem. I understand it is a problem with the WMI reporting from that Server.

What is my best course of action when this happens?

Is there a way to refresh or seek the info again, or should I kick off another download/install?

It has nothing to do with WMI, and there is nothing you can do to modify the behavior. Incorrect progress information is being returned by the Windows Update agent. We have no control over this. It should not happen with any regularity. It is something that we have only ever heard of on rare occasions.

That said, you should also look at the remote agent log and make sure that there weren’t failures during the download. If updates failed to download, that could be a legitimate cause for the incomplete progress bar.

    Hi

Thanks. So what is the best course of action when it happens?

    I have a Server that shows “79% installing… (8/10)” under Progress.

If I look on the Server all 10 updates have been installed and no reboots are pending.

BatchPatch Remote Agent log shows the 10 updates installed and reboot required = True.

How do I now get BatchPatch to update the progress to show 100% completed?
