Quick question…
“And if you are using the current/latest version of PsExec v2.33, then you’ll need to also have the ‘Interactive’ box checked/ticked. See ‘Tools > Settings > Remote Execution’.”
Are you referring to the Deployment option under Remote Execution Context? This one is the only not checked where everything else under this is.
jsira7ParticipantHi Doug,
Just reporting back that the first option (Deploy software) worked like a charm. Thanks so much for you help. Next question, can Batch Patch uninstall previous versions of Office? The plan would be to create a Job queue with uninstalling previous versions of Office and then installing Office 365.
jsira7ParticipantFor option 2 I have made sure Elevated Token is selected. I am not using the current version of PsExec. The one of the Batch Server is v2.20. I noticed that the Interactive is ticked for the first 3 options in Remote Execution Context, but not the 4th. Should I change anything?
jsira7ParticipantPerfect. Thanks Doug. I’ll test and report back

I tried the first two troubleshooting ideas you mentioned, but to no avail. I then researched the article you mentioned. I wasn’t able to find anything mysterious in the CBS.log, but maybe you can see something that I can’t. Here’s the info from the log:

jsira7ParticipantYup! Worked like a charm! Thanks Doug!
jsira7ParticipantI have used this successfully running it in CMD locally on the machine. However when I use Execute remote process from Batch Patch I get an error 1:
reg delete “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components” /v {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4340} /f
jsira7ParticipantI am able to download from Server A manually, it’s just when Batch Patch tried to retrieve it is when I am getting the errors. I did as you suggested and manually copied the cab file to:
C:\Users\msulimo\AppData\Local\Cocobolo_Software,_LLC\BatchPatch\cache
That seemed to have resolved the issue for now.
jsira7ParticipantI checked the wsusscn2.cab on Server A and it was old. The location I checked was C:\Program Files\BatchPatch. I went ahead and deleted it but when I tried to deploy updates to another systems it has been trying to execute the download for the last 10 minutes. The two other machines I’m trying to deploy updates just state Queued. While I am not getting the error message yet, something seems to be preventing Batch Patch from downloading the cab file.

jsira7ParticipantGotcha… I’ll look for one. Thanks Doug!
jsira7ParticipantCurrently running on Windows Server 2012 R2
jsira7ParticipantThanks Doug… I do have a bunch of saved commands. I went ahead and deleted some that aren’t being used anymore and it appears to be holding. Is there a maximum threshold of how many commands can be saved?
jsira7ParticipantWe use two different instances of Batch Patch, but each instance is on a different server. And we use their assigned user profile. For example, ServerA uses userA and ServerB uses userB. They are 2 separate entities residing on different boxes if that helps.
jsira7ParticipantWe always use the same user profile when using Batch Patch. That’s the odd thing… I have multiple saved deployments, but it just started doing this within the past 2-3 saved jobs. As far as your second question, I’m only saving to one of them. I went ahead and pushed windows updates to the Batch Server… And I noticed there’s a newer version out there of Batch Patch. I will try this again and report back. Thanks Doug
jsira7ParticipantHave you ever seen the prompt of when I perform it manually:
‘The following applications should be closed before continuing the install’
Search and Cortana application
jsira7ParticipantGot it… Thanks Doug!!
jsira7ParticipantThanks for the quick response. I haven’t used any alternate credentials. Is there a way to view what’s being used for ‘integrated security’?
Yeah, that’s the weird part. Each time I try to deploy software it immediately locks out my account and gives off that error message. I did try to use alternate credentials just a second ago with a different domain admin account and it worked. But when I perform it straight from the grid without using alternate credentials it locks my account.
jsira7ParticipantNevermind… I deployed the .exe through Batch Patch and added /S as an optional parameter and it worked!! No need for the msi 🙂
January 31, 2017 at 10:24 pm in reply to: Copy File/Folder Crashes When Selecting Too Many Hosts #11507jsira7ParticipantSo I let it go and it looked like it completed. hanks for that advice 🙂
I always copy the files to Batch Patch before I deploy.
January 31, 2017 at 9:50 pm in reply to: Copy File/Folder Crashes When Selecting Too Many Hosts #11505jsira7ParticipantThanks Doug… As of right now it still states as Not Responding. It’s been about 10 minutes. Should I let it go or kill it and reduce the number of targets?
January 31, 2017 at 9:41 pm in reply to: Copy File/Folder Crashes When Selecting Too Many Hosts #11503jsira7ParticipantI went ahead and changed it to 5 and selected about 20 systems. It started copying and almost went immediately to Not Responding. I will do as you suggested and not kill it and check back after some time.
January 31, 2017 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Copy File/Folder Crashes When Selecting Too Many Hosts #11502jsira7ParticipantThanks for the quick reply… I currently have 6 set. Should I reduce it to 5?
jsira7ParticipantThanks again Doug… I went ahead and deployed it to another system and it worked. There must be something wrong with the test VM I have. Again, thank you so much for helping!!
jsira7ParticipantThanks a bunch for really looking into this… Totally appreciate it. I did as mentioned above (putting the /q as you mentioned) but it now comes back with exit code 1612. Any other suggestions?
jsira7ParticipantHey Doug… Another question. I get the same result when I run the .exe version of Report Viewer. I put in the /S for silent install but it doesn’t complete. On the target system I see Report Viewer.exe in Task Manager but it just hangs and doesn’t complete. I have installed .exe successfully before with Batch Patch. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
I also tried copying the file down and leaving it in the directory, but I get the same results.
jsira7ParticipantYes… Even when it states SUCCESS it doesn’t install. I’ll try what you suggested and see if that works.
jsira7ParticipantQuick question Doug… I’m sure by looking at this you can figure out my error. I’m trying the Remote Command feature by executing the .bat file since it’s already in the directory I need it to be. However, I get an error code 1 when trying to execute it. From the blog error code 1 states invalid syntax. I’m sure I’m the knuckle head here 🙂 So here’s what I’m trying to do… I run Malwarebytes on several systems. Since they don’t have an option to remove quarantined items from their management server, I needed to write a .bat to do this for me. I’m fairly new to writing .bat files so the error is for sure me. Since the .bat (named MB_Quarantine_Remove.bat) is already in the following directory I’d like to just execute it there:
C:Program FilesMalwarebytes’ Anti-Malware
Here’s what I inputted in the Remote execute command that generated the exit code 1:
cmd.exe /c “cd C:Program FilesMalwarebytes’ Anti-MalwareMB_Quarantine_Remove.bat”
Do you see what I did to generate the error?
jsira7ParticipantGreat! Thanks for the quick reply. The reason I was checking “Leave entire directory contents” was because I didn’t want it to create a “Temp” subfolder. I will tinker around to see what option works best… Much appreciated!
jsira7ParticipantI plan on trying to deploy a .bat file to a specific directory and I would like it to run once executed. That being said, if I select “Leave entire directory contents” it will copy this .bat to the specific directory that I choose without including a temp subfolder. This is good. My question is that I will be running this .bat every so often, so when I create a deployment job for a second time will it overwrite the contents (since the name of the .bat file will be the same) or will it just rerun the original .bat file? I then plan on creating a schedule for this to happen every other day or so. My main goal is to run this .bat file every other day. Would this accomplish it?
