Newb with Batchpatch here. Tried my best searching around, hope you can help.
I have a handful of Server 2019 boxes I’m patching. I have BP setup in cached mode, using Microsoft update, but I’ve tried this with Windows update and cached mode off.
On what seems like all my 2019 servers, I:
1. Check for updates
2. See updates for all the servers (this month’s example being the August Server 2019 CU and .NET CU, but this happened last month too)
3. Download all updates, every server shows %100 Cached, then Install Downloaded Updated and reboot
4. When server reboots, check for any more updates through BP – shows the 1 August Server CU again (not .net)
5. Log into server, View Update History, don’t see either .net or server CU installed
6. Try applying patching through BP again, comes back “There are no applicable updates”
7. Try usoclient startscan
8. Run scan – still comes back 1 patch, the sever CU for August
9. Log into Windows again, go to Windows Update, check for updates, and it starts getting the August .net Preview update and the August Server CU (Same thing happened in July). Killed Windows Update quickly since I don’t want the preview updates. This seems to work fine in my other domain with Server 2012r2 servers. I took a quick look at the windows update logs after pulling them from powershell, nothing jumped out at me, but I really don’t know what I’m looking for. I took a look at the batchpatch.log for 1 server and I see the below even with cached mode off:
“skipped> 2020-07 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems (KB4558998) – Reason: Update not downloaded/cached
skipped> 2020-08 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems (KB4565349) – Reason: Update not downloaded/cached”Any ideas on the next steps?
Thanks!

That way we can have you send us log files and a grid export for review, which we can’t really do effectively through this forum. Then we should be able to determine exactly what’s happening. Otherwise I’ll just have to take a couple guesses:
The problem you are encountering may be the issue described here: Online Cached Mode Fails to Download Update: Illegal characters in path. HRESULT: -2146233079
I know you said that the issue occurs even when cached mode is disabled, which would indicate that the above link will not help you, but please make sure to read through it carefully and assess your situation before concluding that it’s not the issue that you’re having. However, if the above link does not describe the issue that you’re having, then in that case it might be that you just need to perform the download and install operations in a single action instead of in two separate actions. That is, perform the operation as the single “download + install” action in BP instead of executing “download” and then separately executing “install.” We have very occasionally seen where Windows Update behaves unexpectedly and needs to have these operations executed together instead of separately.
