    Hello everyone,
    First post, total newbie here!

    I noticed a problem: So on some of my servers, BP does not find any updates. It searches and says this:

    ::Begin offline search

    The search query "SoftwareOnly" returned 0 update(s):

    There are no applicable updates

    However, if I change BP’s settings and unselect “enable cached mode” Then BP finds updates.

    This happens only on a few servers.
    Is there anything I could do to fix this issue?

    My BP settings:

    An offline search will not necessarily find identical updates to an online search. The offline search occurs against the WsusScn2.cab file that Microsoft releases each month. Offline mode is designed for offline scanning when no internet or WSUS is available. While this WsusScn2.cab file contains all security updates as well as various other updates that Microsoft decides to include in it, it does not contain every single update that is published on Microsoft’s public Windows Update and Microsoft Update servers. Offline mode is not recommended for computers that have internet access or access to a local WSUS.

    Ummm….I think I may not have made it clear……..but I did say that I am NOT doing offline mode. Please see my screenshot also. Only cached mode is enabled. Checkbox for “offline mode” is left unchecked.

    The log you pasted says differently:

    ::Begin offline search

    ok to maybe this behaviour is a BUG. I am hereby reporting it here 🙂

    Even though I have chosen NOT to do an offline search (as evident from the screenshot)……..BP is still doing an offline search.

    There is no such bug. It seems evident that you executed the search with offline mode enabled, you pasted the log file from that search operation into this thread, and then you took a screenshot with the box unchecked and pasted that into the thread. Alternatively, it’s possible that you used a BatchPatch job queue, and inside the job queue you used the special item ‘Enable offline cached mode (override global settings for this queue only)’

    I’m sure if you go back and test again you will find that what I have said is accurate. You can also review the ‘All Messages’ column for a history of what you have executed, which might help clarify any confusion that you may have about what exactly you executed at which times.

    Well, yes you could be correct………..but I am 100% sure I posted the results after double-checking twice! I knew very well that someone will accuse me of “user error”. In my line of work, I deal with such accusations and in fact, I make such accusations from time to time myself! And many times, I am proven correct 🙂 Ha Ha!

    Furthermore, I do understand your point, the log I posted should not lie….it does shows an offline search. But I have never even checked that “enable offline mode” checkbox! All my servers have full internet access…so there is no reason for me to do that. The only reason I was using “enable cached mode” is to save on download time.

    Anyway, so I went back to re-check, and unfortunately, that particular server who was reporting no updates has already been patched. So both ways it is showing no updates are there.

    Will get back to this thread if I find another server who is misbehaving.

    BTW, Doug, are you the developer of this software? Asking because it says “Participant” under your username but you seem to be pretty confident in your answers 🙂
