When trying to updates a Windows 7 x86 SP1 PC, I am able to see that it needs updates, however nothing is installing. I have tried this on multiple computers running the same operating system, and same results…
These host machines are not connected to the internet. I followed all the steps for the downloading all the updates to cache, enabled cache mode and offline mode, and then I am logging in to the host computer with the correct credentials, trying to select the “Download + Install Updates Reboot If Required” option, but it just gets to the point of showing me that there are over 100 updates needed, but then it doesn’t install them, and I know I have these updates cached. The log ends at the following:
Sat-14:46:35> Windows Update: END (Offline mode: Download and install updates)
Sat-14:46:34> Windows Update: 126 update(s) found
Sat-14:39:24> Windows Update: Executing BatchPatchRemoteAgent.exe…
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Attempting to initiate Windows Update (Action: Search for updates and retrieve url list: ‘SoftwareOnly’ | Server selection: Offline sync service) …
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Establishing connection…
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Initializing…
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: WsusScn2.cab file copy complete
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Copying WsusScn2.cab file from local cache to target working directory…
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Queued WsusScn2.cab file copy from local cache to target working directory…
Sat-14:39:23> Windows Update: Initializing copy of WsusScn2.cab file from local cache to target working directory…
Sat-14:39:22> Windows Update: Local download complete (Files downloaded: 0. Files located in cache: 1. Files excluded by filter: 0. Files initiated by another row: 0. Failures: 0)
Sat-14:38:38> Windows Update: Executing WsusScn2.cab downloader…
Sat-14:38:38> Windows Update: Queued WsusScn2.cab downloader…
Sat-14:38:38> Windows Update: BEGIN (Offline mode: Download and install updates)
Sat-14:38:38> Windows Update: Queued…
Please advise, I would like to purchase a license and be able to deploy this on larger systems, however I need to get this working and streamlined.
June 8, 2019 at 11:54 pm #11617dougModeratorThat’s very peculiar. What version of BP is this? Check under ‘Help > About’. I’m not able to reproduce it. It seems as if somehow the scan is completing and finding the 126 updates, but the actual list of those updates is somehow not getting populated properly in BatchPatch. BatchPatch uses that list of updates to determine what the next step is, and if the list is empty it ends the task because it thinks there are no updates available. We haven’t ever seen this happen, so I’m unsure of how it could actually manifest in your case. However, as a first step I’d like to know what happens when you execute ‘Actions > Windows updates > Retrieve consolidated url list of available updates.’ Based on what you are currently experiencing, it seems like this list will somehow end up not populating. Does the url list grid populate? Does the all messages log report again that it found 126 updates? Let me know what happens, and then we’ll go from there. We’ll probably need to work via email to trade more info after that since this forum is rather rudimentary.

He ended up then trying standard/default/non-caching online mode, and he got this error:
-102: Failed to execute the search. HRESULT: -2147024882
…which translates to:
0x8007000E -2147024882 E_OUTOFMEMORY
He followed the suggestion at this link and installed KB3050265, which resolved the problem. After that he was able to use offline mode successfully to apply the remaining updates to that target computer.
