Hello,
I was hoping that someone may be able to help shed some light on a problem that we are having. It seems that BatchPatch no longer wants to check for updates on a server running Windows 2003 Server. All of the Windows 2008 servers and Windows 2012 servers are still working correctly. I have tried running BatchPatch from two separate machines with different domain admin accounts, but still haven’t had any luck. I have also tried restarting the client machine that is running BatchPatch and one of the servers that I am trying to update. We have never had trouble before running on these servers, and if I look at the log on the server I can see that this ran fine back in March. Has anyone else seen this problem? Can you please help steer me in the right direction? Again this issue is only showing up on Windows 2003 Servers.
Thanks,
Cory
July 7, 2014 at 5:38 pm #11533dougModeratorCory – When you say “no longer wants to check for updates” what do you mean? Could you please provide details?
Is there an error? If yes, what is the exact error text?
Additionally, do you see a BatchPatchError.log file on the target machine in the remote working directory? (this directory defaults to C:Program FilesBatchPatch, if you haven’t modified it)
What happens if you run the Windows Update GUI (from control panel) manually on one of the problematic machines? Does this work as expected?
The more information you can provide, the more likely I’ll be able to help you. At the moment, however, I simply don’t have enough information to go on. There is no reason that I am aware of why things would all of a sudden stop working on your 2003 machines. Nothing changed in the BatchPatch code that would prevent it from working, so I suspect there is something that changed in your environment.
What version of BatchPatch are you using? (Help > About)
Are you using WSUS?
Thanks,
Doug
July 7, 2014 at 6:00 pm #11534cory.owensParticipantHi Doug,
Thank you very much for the quick response.
The message that I am receiving on the BatchPatch application GUI is “Access to the path \serverc$program filesBatchPatchBatchPatchRemoteAgent.exe is denied”
The error log on the client contains the following error:
-102: Failed to execute the search. HRESULT: -2145124322
The updates appear to be installing correctly when running manually. We are using WSUS. The clients have already downloaded the updates from the WSUS server (This was done 5 days ago), so the updates just need to be installed.
The version of BatchPatch that I am using is 2013.3.21.20.10
Please let me know if there is any other information that I may be able to provide to help shed light on this.
Thanks again,
Cory
July 7, 2014 at 6:06 pm #11535dougModeratorCory – I’m going to email you so that we can iterate more easily. Once we’ve gotten to the bottom of the problem I will post an update here in the forum.

July 7, 2014 at 8:56 pm #11536dougModeratorCory determined that the issue appears to be resolved after manually the running Windows Update GUI on the problematic machines, installing the updates, and rebooting. After that, BatchPatch once again worked normally.
At this time, it’s not clear exactly what the cause of the problem was/is, but I will update this thread if/when there is more to report.
