I use the “Notes” column to further identify my hosts, many of which have cryptic names from before my time. Every time I restart Batch Patch, I have to move the “Notes” column from the far right to the far left, next to my “Host” column, since the location is not saved. All the other columns are fine. can this become part of the “Save Tab” function?
August 22, 2017 at 3:31 pm #10458dougModeratorCurrently the column display index is saved globally, not per-tab. While we are considering adding it to the per-tab settings, for now what you need to do if it does not appear to be saving properly is:
1. Close all instances of batchpatch.exe
2. Launch just a single instance of batchpatch.exe with just a single grid visible.
3. Move the columns to the desired locations. NOTE, the actual location of the column will be affected by which columns are visible at the time that you modify the column locations. So to be sure that it goes right next to the host column, you should first make visible the column that is currently next to the host column. Go to ‘Tools > Customize visible columns’ and check the desired boxes so that you can see which columns are actually right next to the hosts column. Then drag the notes column so that it is in between the hosts column and whichever column was previously next to the hosts column.
4. Once you have the desired ordering, close BatchPatch. When you re-open BP the columns should be in the order that they were previously.

Trying to do the same thing with the description column, can’t make it stick.
Started with a fresh blank tab. Arranged the columns to have description between ping reply and reboot messages. Closed, re-opened and it sticks. But if I open an existing tab, or import computers into the new tab and save, description winds up over at the far right again.
Edit:
I turned off “remember open tabs” and if I launch by double clicking my saved .bps file, the position sticks. Acceptable workaround for now. Thanks.
September 18, 2017 at 4:15 pm #10439dougModeratorYes – there is a bug when using “remember open tabs” that causes them to not stick. however, for the next release of BP we will be having the column order saved per-tab/per-bps file instead of globally, so it will no longer be an issue.
Thanks,
Doug
