Over the past month or two, when going to Windows Updates > Retrieve consolidated url list of available updates, the list appears to be formatted incorrectly and when clicking the “download files to local cache” button, the following error appears.
“BatchPatch encountered an unexpected problem: Index was outside the bounds of the array”
The Feb 2026 WsusScn2.cab file that Microsoft published is malformed, so it doesn’t parse properly. You can delete those two “bad” rows at the top of the list before you click the ‘Download’ button, and then you’ll be able to download everything else without issues. Since this is the first time we’ve seen this happen before from Microsoft, we assume that next month’s file will be back to normal without any malformation, as we believe this was a mistake/error, not intentional, by them.
